Sarah Vowell’s Unfamiliar Fishes Wows ‘Em

March 22, 2011

Some may know Sarah Vowell best from Public Radio’s This American Life. Others may know her as the voice of Violet in Disney’s The Incredibles or enjoyed her visits with John Stewart on The Daily Show. Her faithful readers will know her from her informative and amusing books, among them: Assassination Vacation ( a quirky road trip exploring the assassinations of Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley);  The Wordy Shipmates (required reading for anyone wanting to laugh while learning more about the Puritan settlers in New England) as well as The Partly Cloudy Patriot and Take The Cannoli (very funny essays and commentaries by the self-described history-nerd).

Vowell’s newest book is Unfamiliar Fishes which releases today. From Publishers Weekly: “Outrageous and wise-cracking, educational but never dry, this book is a thought-provoking and entertaining glimpse into the U.S.’s most unusual state [Hawaii] and its unanticipated twists on the familiar story of Americanization.”
