OK, so you want to watch something more grown up than Hotel For Dogs? Fine! We’ve got a month of movies– Fridays at 7 p.m. in July, by Independent film makers for sophisticates just like you:

July 10  Adaptation … A lovelorn screenwriter turns to his less talented twin brother for help when his efforts to adapt a non-fiction book go nowhere. Adapted from the book The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean.

July 17th  Man On Wire … A look at tightrope walker Philippe Petit’s daring, but illegal, high-wire routine performed between New York City’s World Trade Center’s twin towers in 1974, what some consider, “the artistic crime of the century.” Based on the book To Reach The Clouds by Philippe Petit.

July 24  Frozen River … Two women – one white, one Mohawk, both single mothers faced with desperate circumstances – are drawn into the world of border smuggling across the frozen water of the St. Lawrence River.

July 31  Slumdog Millionaire … A Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers. Based on the book Slumdog Millionaire by Vikas Swarup
