Celebrate Reading With Great Books For Kids And Teens

April 9, 2009

April 2, the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, is International Children’s Book Day, a worldwide celebration dedicated to inspiring a love of reading. The occasion is sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People, which chooses a theme and an illustrator for the event’s annual poster. The 2009 illustrator is Egyptian artist Hani D. El-Masri, who has contributed to such animated films as The Prince of Egypt and Spirit: Mustang of the Cimarron. El-Masri’s “I am the world” poster shows a young girl, enthralled by a book, atop a world of imaginary destinations. Join the celebration of International Children’s Book Day by inviting a young reader to join you on a visit to the Library.

You can’t swing a cat in a public library without hitting at least 2 terrific books for kids so you’ve no excuses to not come in and open a new world for a child with a book. We can make a few suggestions with the popular and award-winning books lists below:
