Yale Campus and British Museum of Art Tours

Join other Library Friends and shoreline residents for a morning tour of the Yale Campus, an enjoyable lunch at the private club Morey’s (remember the Whiffenpoofs?) and an afternoon tour of the Yale Center for British Art. Seats are limited, and this is a tour you don’t want to miss, so sign up now!

Yale, founded in 1701, is the third oldest institution of higher education in the U.S. Many of its buildings were constructed in the neo-Gothic art style from 1917. Yale has one of the important architecture schools in the U.S., and, as such, has integrated some modern structures by significant architects, such as Eero Saarinen and Cesar Peli among the older buildings. You’ll learn about the architectural significance of many of these impressive structures and, most importantly, have a private tour of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, which features one of the few original, remaining Gutenberg Bibles, a sunken sculpture garden and translucent marble “windows.”

The Yale Center for British Art, both a public art museum and a world-renowned research institute for the study of British art and culture, houses the most comprehensive collection of British art outside the United Kingdom. The building’s architect, Louis Kahn, was the subject of the film “My Architect”. An entrancing exhibition assembled at the center and touring nationally, which displays British photographer Jem Southam’s photographs of Upton Pyne over a five year period, is included in the tour.

  • The bus will depart Town Hall at 9am.and return by 3:30pm.
  • The cost of the package, including lunch, is $55 per person.

Twenty percent of the cost is tax deductible.
